pearls

usecase

  • Hospitalized patients with diabetic foot ulcer of any duration.
  • Do not use in patients with secondary diabetes or those with foot ulcers caused by autoimmune disease or malignancy.

reasons

Uses more objective findings than previous diabetic wound classification sytems such as the SINBAD and Wagner systems.

next_advice

Diabetic foot ulcer management can be complex and should employ a multidisciplinary approach for long-term management, including primary care, endocrinology, wound care specialists, podiatry, etc. as necessary.
